Alexa, what’s my home worth?March 8, 2017
Wouldn’t it be nice to know what your home is worth without leaving your couch? Now you can by asking Alexa. If you have an Amazon Echo, Echo Dot or other Alexa-enabled device like the FireTV, we’ve got the skill for you. Redefy created the first home valuation Alexa skill for any home in America.
Easy to activate, easy to use
Just go to the Amazon store and activate the free Redefy Real Estate Home Valuation skill.
Now you can address your device by simply saying, “Alexa, ask Redefy Real Estate what my home is worth.” In seconds you’ll have a valuation based on your home’s data and comparable homes in your neighborhood. If the number prompts you to consider selling, you’ll be given the opportunity to speak with an agent. It’s that easy!
Here’s what the valuation might look like on your screen with an Alexa-enabled TV or streaming stick.
Why you need more than a Zestimate
If you’ve ever looked up a home on Zillow , you’ll see a “Zestimate” below the list price. These estimations shouldn’t be trusted because their valuation parameters are based on the most basic public records: physical attributes, tax assessments and prior sales data. This data is often old and may not include the actual sold price (i.e. Texas where sold prices aren’t in public records and actual sold prices are only accessible by agents). This results in lower valuations, which may have you hesitating to sell and missing out on profit.
At the other extreme of the Zestimate is the over-estimated home; Zillow CEO Spencer Rascoff’s Seatttle home was zestimated at $1,575,201 the day after it sold for $1,050,000 (off by 33 percent!). Relying on these numbers could leave you with an overpriced home that results in higher numbers of days on the market. Overpricing leads to delays and price reductions; it makes buyers think there is something wrong with your house.
The Zestimate for Zillow CEO Spencer Rascoff’s home doesn’t come close to the sold price.
Redefy’s home valuation algorithm is more accurate because it includes deeper data about your home and relevant comparables, so you get a truer picture of the market in your area. This is a great starting point if you’re considering selling or refinancing.
You can get this valuation on your Alexa device or by using our Home Value Calculator from your computer or phone. As a technology platform, Redefy is dedicated to helping you make informed decisions and stay in control of your selling experience all the way through closing.
Is an automated value enough?
If you’re seriously considering selling, you will need more than an automated home valuation. We know that your home is unique, with features and possibly upgrades not in any available records; for the most accurate home valuation, you need an agent to look at your home in person.
Redefy’s agents come to your home on your schedule because they’re full-time agents active in the market (that means more current experience and more timely service for you). They’ll take a look at your home’s layout, finishes, features and more to factor into the most accurate home valuation possible; the result will be a Comparative Market Analysis tailored to your home.
An accurate home value results in competitive pricing for a faster sale and maximized profits. One of the biggest ways to get more out of your home sale is to skip the listing commission, which can be up to 3 percent of your home’s sold price (ouch!). With Redefy, you’ll get to list your home for a flat fee and still get the full service you expect. We’ll save you thousands for more important things in life.
We hope you enjoy our Alexa skill, but more importantly, we hope you use it to understand the importance of accurately valuing your home when it’s time to sell.
Redefy is a platform empowering home buyers and sellers. Save thousands with a flat fee, full service listing — because you have more important things to spend your equity on!
