Inspired Interiors: Get Your Home Ready for Spring EntertainingApril 27, 2017
It’s Spring and I love it! Seeing all of the flowers and trees emerge with color just makes something inside of me burst with happiness every morning when I open my front door. It also reminds me of the great things springs provides. There’s just something refreshing about this season that causes me to want to clean up, refresh, and invite all my favorite people over. It’s what spring entertaining is all about.
So often the cold and dreary winter seems to put the yard work, closet cleaning, and overall honey-let’s-do items on hold. But now that spring has sprung, I’m ready to catch up and ready up for all the friends and family that will be visiting this spring and summer. Getting ready can sometimes feel like a daunting task. Nonetheless, it’s like anything else: just focus on doing one thing at a time.

Revitalize your home
Just before Easter my husband and I began getting our home ready for our guests that would arrive, not only for the holiday but also for the friends that will soon be staying at our home. Here are some things we did to prepare for our guests:
- De-leaf the yard
- Pull the winter weeds
- Add grass seed to barren patches in the yard
- Refresh potted plants specifically at the entry door and porch areas
- Deep clean the house, dusting all the cobwebs and window treatments
- Refresh the areas of paint that need touch-ups such as doors, trim, and well-used walkways
- Clean out the closets and donate excess, simplify!
- Add a fresh potted flower or plant to the kitchen
- Wash the windows
These were the things we thought would make the biggest impact. Doing just a few of these items will give your home fresh jump start. Doing all of these things will make your home feel revitalized.
In addition to doing these things, my husband and I sat down to strategize and plan out the things we want to accomplish this year as our entertaining continues. We made an checklist (on Wunderlist) of the things our home is in need of. Now granted our home is 20+ years old, so it’s in need of a bit of love. Here’s what we added to our list:
- Replace fascia and gutters
- Paint the exterior brick and trim
- Refinish our stairway banister
- Re-tile the kitchen backsplash
- Repaint our bedroom
- Replace the flooring in the bedrooms
We can’t do all of these things at once. The top list items can easily be done, but the bottom ones we have to take a few at a time. Don’t forget your list might look different than mine, and that’s okay. There’s no magic formula to getting spring entertaining ready. The key is making a plan and going after it.
Take a fresh look around your home to see what’s lacking or lackluster.
These ideas are merely ones that might get you started. Although my home is 20+ years old, yours may be much newer and you may have a bit less to undertake. Regardless, take a fresh look around your home to see what’s lacking or lackluster. You know what you need to do to get ready for spring entertaining.
Make a list and prioritize biggest impact/most important to least. Maybe just do a few items a week until you reach your goal. The key is to do a little bit at a time. But don’t forget once you’ve reached your goal, be sure to sit down and enjoy the fruits of your labor with your friends and family.
